Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon® (PRRR) is an innovative partnership to leverage public and private investments in global health to combat cervical and breast cancer – two of the leading causes of cancer death in women – in developing nations in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Led by the George W. Bush Institute, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), PRRR will expand the availability of vital cervical cancer screening and treatment—especially for high-risk HIV-positive women – and also promote breast cancer education. PRRR supports the following initiatives at the African Centre of Excellence for Women’s Cancer Control:

  • Cancer Prevention Alliance of Zambia (CAPRAZ), a national alliance of breast and cervical cancer advocacy groups (supported by Susan G. Komen for the Cure)
  • Hired a Health Promotions Manager at ACEWCC for five years (supported by the National Breast Cancer Foundation)
  • Donation of vaccines for HPV vaccination demonstration project (provided by GlaxoSmithKline and Merck)
  • Provision of HPV vaccine logistics support (provided by Merck)
  • National expansion of cervical cancer prevention services (supported by PEPFAR)
  • Refurbishment of the Ngungu Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening Clinic in central province (supported by the George W. Bush Institute)
  • Training of Cancer Diseases Hospital nurses in palliative care (supported by GlaxoSmithKline)
  • Donation of a three year supply of morphine to the Cancer Diseases Hospital (supported by GlaxoSmithKline)
  • Financial support for high-level training of breast and cervical cancer care specialists (provided by Susan G. Komen for the Cure)
  • Financial support for the development of an e-based distance consultation and quality assurance platform, also known as the eHub (supported by the George W. Bush Institute)
  • Improved linkages between HIV care and cervical cancer prevention clinics (supported by UNAIDS)
  • Designation of the “African Centre of Excellence for Women’s Cancer Control” (supported by the George W. Bush Institute)
